Pashtrik mountain, located in the border between Kosovo and Albania is a legendary mountain, because of the last war in Kosovo, in 1999. A lot of hostilities were made in this territory.

This mountain is one of the most beautiful free-standing mountains, and it can be seen from the city of Prizren, Gjakova in Kosovo and Kukes in Albania. What makes this peak more special for me, is the fact that I was born in Prizren, from which city this mountain looks gorgeous.

How to get there

There are a lot of paths to climb this mountain, from Albania and Kosovo. From Albania, you can climb the mountain from the village of Kishaj, Has district and from Kruma. From Kosovo, you can climb it from Kushnin village, and from Planeja village. Below, I will explain the path from Kushnin to Pashtrik peak 1987 m/alt.

Reaching Kushnin is very easy. You can reach this village from Gjakova or from Prizren. From Prizren you can go there by car, just following the Maps. Prizren to Gjonaj (Has) then to Krajk, Romaja, Dedaj, and Kushnin. There are several buses going from Prizren to Kushnin every day.

When you arrive in Kushnin, you follow the road to the school in the village. There is the start of the trail.

If you have a 4×4 car, you can continue with it through the trail. The path is unpaved but passable.

About the Kushnin – Pashtrik peak hike

It is a moderate hike, but a very long trail. First, you will go through a forest, until you go to the border between Albania and Kosovo. There you can enjoy the meadowy terrains and very beautiful 360-degree views. After that, you will go again through another forest. After that forest, you will follow a beautiful rocky path, until you reach a mountain hut. There you can have a rest before summiting. From that mountain hut, only one hill is left to climb. I think that is the most difficult part! When you reach the summit the views are amazing. You can see the city of Prizren and Kukes, Gjallica and Koretnik mountains. Also, a part of the Sharr Mountains range. It is great. At the top of the Pashtrik mountain, it is Pashtrik shrine. Very famous for that zone. The distance of this trail is 28.36 km.

This is a very dry mountain, therefore please take around 2-3 liters of water. You can climb this mountain in any season.
