Kosovo Luboten

Luboten peak, from Brezovica through Livadh lake

One of the best adventures in the Sharr mountains is reaching the Luboten peak (also called Ljuboten and Lybeten), the elevation of this peak is  2’498 m/alt. Legendary Luboten is reached from many trails. The trails to reach Luboten are from Kaçanik (a town in Kosovo), from Macedonia and the trail from Brezovica to Luboten, which I think is the most adventurous one.

Brezovica is a ski resort village located in Shterpca, a small town in the south-east of Kosovo. Luboten is a peak between Kosovo and Macedonia.

How to get to Brezovica

The starting point for this trail is in the touristic village of Brezovica near Hotel “Molika” where you can park the car.

There are two ways to get to Brezovica. The first way is from the city of Prizren, you will go through some villages and Sharr Mountains range, then in the touristic village of Prevalla, and you continue on the road to Brezovica.
The other way is to go through the town of Shterpca. Once you arrive in Shterpce you continue to Brezovica. The distance between Shterpca and Brezovica is around 12 km.

About the Brezovica to Luboten like

This is a moderate day hike. The distance of all trail is around 21.1 km. First, you start hiking through a signed trail which leads you to a very beautiful lake you will see in this hike – Livadh lake (also called Xholi lake). Livadh lake is a glacial lake located in Sharr mountains in elevation 2’173 m. There you can enjoy the view and swim in this cold lake. From the lake, you can see the beautiful pyramid shape of Luboten peak. You will go through a meadow terrain until you reach the last hill. This the most difficult part of this trail because you need to climb around 400 m and the terrain is rocky. When you reach the summit the views are amazing! There you can enjoy the 360-degree views of Sharr Mountains range, the city of Ferizaj and Kaçanik, also a part from Macedonia.

There isn’t any water spring during the trail. The last water spring is at the beginning of the trail, in Brezovica, so take around 2-2.5 liters of water.
