At the high point, in local time (Europe/Tirane), with an open horizon: the mountains around can hide the sun sooner.

In short

Plazhi i Gjeneralit is a beach near Kavaja, Albania, with clear water, a restaurant and a bar. The final 5 km of the access road are unpaved, and the last mini market is in Synej. The beach can get crowded on weekends; I recommend staying for sunset.

Plazhi i Gjeneralit, or General’s Beach, is a tranquil and picturesque beach located near Kavaja, Albania. Named after an Italian general who was captivated by its beauty during World War II, this beach offers a perfect escape for those seeking peace and natural beauty. The general was so enchanted by the bay that he returned to Italy to bring his family for holidays here, adding a touch of historical charm to this serene spot.

How to Get There

To reach Plazhi i Gjeneralit, start your journey in Tirana. Head towards Durrës, and from there, continue to Kavaja through Golem. The distance between Durrës and Kavaja is 22 km. Once in Kavaja, follow the signs to Synej, where you’ll see a sign directing you to turn right towards Plazhi i Gjeneralit. This area also has the last mini market where you can purchase food and drinks. The final 5 kilometers of the road are unpaved, so drive slowly. About 2.5 km before reaching the beach, you’ll encounter a fork in the road—turn left to continue to Plazhi i Gjeneralit (turning right leads to Kalaja beach, which is closed to the public).

Where to Eat and Sleep

There is a restaurant at Plazhi i Gjeneralit, although I haven’t personally tried the food. Additionally, there is a bar where you can relax and enjoy refreshments.

About Plazhi i Gjeneralit Beach

Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by a stunning bay, with the pristine waters of the Adriatic Sea adding to the beach’s allure. The clean, clear waters and well-maintained beach make it a delightful spot for relaxation. While it can get crowded on weekends, the beach maintains a peaceful atmosphere.

I highly recommend staying until sunset, as the views are breathtaking. Camping at Plazhi i Gjeneralit is an incredible experience—quiet nights, the soothing sound of the sea waves, and a sky full of stars create a perfect, serene environment.

Additional Tips

  • Bring sufficient food and drinks, especially if you plan to camp, as the last mini market is at Synej.
